Noise is unhealthy... Make it quiet! A large nitrogen plant has been built in the north of the Netherlands. This plant ensures that the Netherlands can use imported gas. The nitrogen plant consists of a long building about 150 meters long, 35 meters wide and 20 meters high. This large hall is then divided into smaller halls, each of which houses a compressor. The acoustic consultant for this project set acoustic requirements to create a safe and productive working environment. The airborne sound insulation between two internal halls must have a Rw value of at least 45 dB. This ensures that when work is being carried out on the compressor in one room, the noise level is not too high due to the compressor running in the adjacent room. Another measure to reduce the sound pressure level in the room is to make the walls and ceiling absorbent. This will also make the hall less reverberant and improve speech intelligibility in the hall. After carrying out a series of calculations and measurements in the acoustic laboratory, Metecno Sound proposed a construction of Hipertec Wall Sound 120 mm on both sides of the column, with the perforation towards the halls. A Rw value of 55 dB is obtained, and all the walls and ceilings are fully absorbent. During a visit to the factory, despite the turbines turning, the acoustic climate was pleasant and healthy.
