Noise is unhealthy... Make it quiet! What is the lowest acoustic insulation we can reach with our Metecno panels? Most people would guess that it will be a PIR panel. PIR panels have indeed a rather low sound insulation value (R_w around 25 dB). Yet we have measured panels with a lower value. Within Metecno we are able to produce mineral wool panels, with stonewool or glasswool, that have a perforated sheet on both sides. We simply call it Sound Sound. These panels are absorptive on both sides and therefore perfect for use in a separation wall in big industrial halls. Or for usage in #acousticlouvres. It greatly improves on both sides of the wall the acoustics due to the sound absorption. The reverberation time will be lower, the speech intelligibility much better and the sound pressure level will be much lower. Yet the question is what will the sound insulation be with on two sides a perforated sheet? We managed to do some calculations with Acous Stiff from GAMBA Acoustique (Groupe GAMBA) and measured this in the TZUS Group laboratory. We measured a R_w value of 19 dB. So the Sound Sound products are perfect for optimal #soundabsorption yet less for sound insulation. Yet we have other prefab acoustic solutions to reach up to 70 dB.
